FactFinder. Hmong census data are found within 3 data sets within American
FactFinder – Summary File 1, Summary File 2, Summary File 4

Basic Population Counts – Summary File 1

Gender and Age Distributions, Household Size, and

Homeownership vs. Rental Data – Summary File 2

Selected Social Characteristics (School Enrollment, Educational Attainment, Marital

SPECIFICS ON HOW TO ACCESS HMONG CENSUS DATA
IN THE 3 SUMMARY FILES

STEPS TO ACCESS HMONG DATA IN SUMMARY FILE 1

It is recommended that these instructions be printed out and followed step by step.

1. Go to www.census.gov

2. Click on American Factfinder on the left button bar

3. Click on Data Sets on the left button bar

4. On the Data Sets page Summary File 1 should be marked, Select Quick Tables on
the Right

5. Select your geographic area, click Add and then Next

6. On the next page, choose Show all Tables as the table selection method, from the
table pull-down list select the table QT-P7 Race Alone or in combination for AIAN and
for selected categories of Asian and of NHPI: 2000, click Add and then Show Result,
Hmong (and other Asian ethnic group population data) should appear for the
geographic area you selected.

STEPS TO ACCESS HMONG DATA IN SUMMARY FILE 2

1. Go to www.census.gov

2. Click on American Factfinder on the left button bar

3. Click on Data Sets on the left button bar

4. On the Data Sets page Summary File 2 should be marked, Select Quick Tables on
the Right

5. Go through the steps to select your geographic area, click Add and then Next

6. Choose your data table, for homeownership data and household size select QT:H3
Household Population and Household Type by Tenure: 2000, for age and gender
distribution data select QT:P1 Age Groups and Sex, after choosing your table click
Add and then Next

7. The next page Race or Ethnic Groups will come up, under the middle selection bar
Select one or more race or ethnic groups, scroll down the list of ethnic groups until
you reach Hmong alone or Hmong alone or in any combination (your preference),
click Add and then Show Result, your data selection should be compiled and appear

STEPS TO ACCESS HMONG DATA IN SUMMARY FILE 4

1. Go to www.census.gov

2. Click on American Factfinder on the left button bar

3. Click on Data Sets on the left button bar

4. On the Data Sets page Summary File 4 should be marked, Select Quick Tables on
the Right

5. Go through the steps to select your geographic area, click Add and then Next

6. Choose your data table, for social characteristics data (education, citizenship,
disability status, language ability etc.) select DP-2 Profile of Selected Social
Characteristics: 2000 for economic data (income, jobs and poverty) select DP-3
Profile of Selected Economic Characteristics: 2000, after choosing your table click
Add and then Next

7. The next page Race or Ethnic Groups will come up, under the middle selection bar
Select one or more race or ethnic groups, scroll down the list of ethnic groups until
you reach Hmong alone or Hmong alone or in any combination (your preference),
click Add and then Show Result, your data selection should be compiled and appear


HOW TO ACCESS DETAILED HMONG SOCIOECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC
DATA IN THE 2005 and 2006 AMERICAN COMMUNITY SURVEY

1. Go to www.census.gov

2. Click on
American Factfinder on the left button bar

3. Click on "Get Data" below
American Community Survey under "Getting Detailed
Data" on the American Factfinder page

4. Make Sure "2005 or 2006 American Community Survey" is Marked

5. On the right click on "Selected Population Profiles"

6. Select the geographic area of "Nation", and then "United States" click Add and
then Next

7. The "Race or Ethnic Groups" screen will come up next, scroll on the list and select
"Hmong alone or in any Combination", Click on "Show Results" and the data tables
for Hmong will come up.
