VOLUME 7 OF HMONG STUDIES JOURNAL IS PUBLISHED AT www.hmongstudies.org

CORPUS CHRISTI, TX – The Hmong Studies Internet Resource Center has published the
online edition of volume 7 of the Hmong Studies Journal. An internet-based journal, The
Hmong Studies Journal is the only peer-reviewed academic publication devoted to the
scholarly discussion of Hmong history, Hmong culture, Hmong people, and other facets of
the Hmong experience in the U.S., Asia and around the world. The Hmong Studies Journal
has now published 9 online issues in 7 volumes with a total of 54 scholarly articles
since 1996.

Mark E. Pfeifer, PhD editor of the Hmong Studies Journal stated: “Volume 7 of the journal
includes a well-balanced set of articles that cross disciplines and provide important
additions to both Hmong-American research and the larger body of academic work being
done related to Hmong in Asia and across the diaspora.”   

Articles in Volume 7 discuss the following range of topics:

•        The perceptions and knowledge Hmong-Americans have of kidney stones,
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma cancer and safe food-handling practices

•        The experiences of Hmong-origin mental health providers  

•        Lessons from the 2004-2006 resettlement of Hmong refugees from Wat Tham Krabok
in the United States

•        The development of a curriculum intended to promote resiliency among Hmong and
Southeast Asian American youth

•        Hmong-American political engagement in Minnesota

•        Hmong-American adaptation in Texas

•        The role and functions of community-produced videos in the Hmong diaspora

•        The significance of a mythical figure in Hmong folklore and religion

•        The experiences of faculty and community members as they have attempted to
develop a Hmong-American Studies academic program at a major midwestern university.   

Hmong Studies Journal Volume 7 will also be available in a special print edition in 2007
